Natabua High School and Kamil Muslim College Under 19 teams have booked their spots for the Vodafone Fijian Secondary School Soccer championships semifinals today.

Natabua thumped Xavier College 2-0 in the first quarterfinal while Kamil Muslim College defeated Nadi Muslim College 3-0 in a penalty shootout in the second quarter final to book their spot in the first semifinal today.

National U17 team selector Shalen Lal said the players have shown competitive football.

“The performance of the players in the team this year is quite high this year, teams from schools like AD Patel College, Saraswati College are very competitive in U17,” Lal said.

Lal with his fellow selectors and former Ba football coach Yogendra Dutt are scouting for best U17 and U19 players from the competition.

“Fiji Football as taken a step up in preparation for national U17 and U20 teams.

“I guess the tournament is one and a half year away so I guess we want to get the best from this competition representing their schools. We want to get the best, elite players from all the schools as we gear up for the U17 tournament in 2017,” Lal said.

Meanwhile, Saraswati College U19 took on Shreedhar Maharaj College in the third quarterfinal and Nukuloa College played Latter Day Saints College in the fourth quarterfinal when this edition when to press last night.
