One of the influential SODELPA officials in the North, Ratu Kilipati Vakalalabure, has called on the party’s management board to act now on the controversial confidential report.

Ratu Kilipati, who leads the Cakaudrove Province party unit, led a traditional delegation that nominated Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu as SODELPA president.

He and others including MP Mosese Bulitavu have threatened to resign if  the board fails to meet  by tomorrow.

The report recommends that Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa step down. It is also critical of her leadership and the governance of the Opposition Office.

Speaking on behalf of SODELPA North office in Labasa, Ratu Kilipati said: “we call on the Management Board of SODELPA to exercise wisdom and quickly act to quell this impasse that has escalated over the last week regarding the emails that were sent out by one Ganavinaka.

“We have noted with concern the absence of any reaction from the party with respect to making any decision to sit as a board and address the issue of complaints that has now formally come to their attention.

“As SODELPA supporters and followers it is disheartening and raises questions why they have yet to sit to address this matter and instead allow the party to be dragged through the mud instead!

“We also stand by Hon Mosese Bulitavu our rep who has stated his stand like any right thinking person would, to demand for an investigation. Anonymous or not, the fact that a Bank Statement supposedly of the Opposition Office is in the report, is a matter of grave concern.

“We also ask that the general secretary of the party, Pio Tabaiwalu, be informed of our disappointment in his pre-empting of that investigation that he has acknowledged will now occur since he has received the correspondence of complaint.”

Ratu Kilipati said Mr Tabaiwalu should not be part of the Investigation Team and should remove himself from that situation with immediate effect. He said instead Mr Tabaiwalu should handover to someone within the board who can handle the matter with “maturity and foresight.”

He said if the party thinks that only the SODELPA Opposition caucus should resolve the matter then Ro Teimumu and others with her must resign by tomorrow.

He said the row over the report had affected their networking and awareness with their voters who want to bring their problems to the Members of Parliament.
