Selling dried coconuts, weaving mats and selling fish is what brought the Gau Netters to participate in the Lewa Sewa Netters Competition Netball in Suva.

Participating for the first time in the tournament Under-12 team manager Ana Garveen said wining was a bonus to them.

“Since it is the first time for the kids to be here today (yesterday) we are not really focusing on wining the games, it is exposure that we came for,” Garveen said.

“It has been a tough competition but the girls are enjoying every time they have.

She added this was where they got to learn more netball skills.

“Being in the island and coming out here to compete with the Viti Levu a based school has been challenging to the girls as well.

“We just have three grades, Under 10, 12 and 14 come next year we will come in full force and hopefully win in some of these grades.

“We thank the Lord for giving the girls a very good opportunity like this to come and be part of the netball tournament this year,” she said.

“Whatever we have achieved we’ll take back with us and learn from it and we are sure will bring a much stronger team next year.

Lewa Sewa netball vice president Timaima Nailolo was impressed after Day One competition yesterday.

“There was great performance from island teams like Moturiki, Ovalau, Cakaudrove who played really well after day one.

“We were really impressed with day one competition as scheduled and we thank all participating teams,” Nailolo said.

Competition continues today.
