Kamil Muslim College Under-19 football men’s side defeated Saraswati College 2-0 in the culmination of the Vodafone Fijian Secondary School Soccer championship at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

The Ba-based side walked away with a cheque of $1000 and a trophy while runners-up Saraswati were awarded $400.

Bolstering the side was national rep Misiwani Nairube who was instrumental for the Kamilian side.

Kamil coach Azam Ali said they were well prepared for the win.

“Even though we had a number of injuries in the team we still managed to win.

“It is about 15 years now we haven’t won, it took us a lot of sacrifice and hard work to win the game today (yesterday),” Ali said.

KMC dominated the game from the opening minutes as they displayed a well attacking structure and defensive style which kept the hosts side guessing. Grayen Reul scored the first goal for Kamil just minute to halftime and allowed his side to have a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Kamilians maintained momentum in the second-half and Josaia Tuwai scored their second goal. “We committed a few mistakes during the game and now we will go back and work on them before we come back next year,” he said.

Meanwhile head of Vodafone E-Commerce and Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad congratulated the schools for a successful event.

“This is a great development for you young athletes. You have the potentials and make sure you make use of them. “Continue with the hard work and don’t stop where you are now because you have great potential in terms of soccer skills,” Prasad said.
