Social Demoratic Liberial Party (SODELPA) parliamentarian Viliame Gavoka was yesterday barred from visiting those charged with sedition-related acts who were in custody at Lautoka.

Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu said, “We are not allowing any visits to the (group) now in custody in Natabua.”

The Commissioner said they only allowed visits for the family members.

Lieutenant-Colonel Vasu said when Mr Gavoka was stopped yesterday he called SODELPA parliamentarian and lawyer Semesa Karavaki.

However when the Fiji Sun contacted Mr Gavoka his reponse was merely – “We do not talk to the Fiji Sun.”

The Fiji Sun then contacted Mr Karavaki and he confirmed that Mr Gavoka had called him seeking his help to represent the alleged rebels in court.

Mr Karavaki confirmed that there had been talks for him to represent the group.

“I am always representing people in Nadroga in court as they usually ask for my service,” he said.

He also stressed that the SODELPA was not linked to the group’s alleged activities.
