BRED Bank’s commitment in Fiji has impressed and pleased the central bank Governor, Barry Whiteside.

This comes as BRED Bank opened its Nadi Town branch on Wednesday, its fifth in a span of less than three years of opening

The opening of officially done by the BRED Bank Group chief executive Olivier Klein who is currently in Fiji.

Mr Whiteside said: “You are not dealing with a small bank. It’s a very large bank you are dealing with.

“The five branches in Fiji is a small part of what is out there. Definitely we feel that there is their commitment to Fiji. In a space of a small time, they have put in five branches and the commitment we have from the boss himself is that they are here for the long run.”

Mr Whiteside welcomed the competitive ability of the bank to challenge the big banks out here in Fiji.

“So we look forward to Frederic Reynaud and his team to come good with this promise that they will be looking at the SME sector,” he said.

“They are under our radar. They are part of the six banks that we now have in Fiji and we feel that we have a good set of banks now to go forward with.”

Meanwhile, Mr Klein said it was equally important for BRED Bank be in Nadi too.

“The opening of this branch in Nadi clearly demonstrates BRED Bank’s continued commitment in the economic and financial development of banking in the Fijian market,” he said.
