The Naitonitoni Road entrance that leads into Navua Town off the Queens Highway is undergoing a facelift.

According to Phil Tombs, Fulton Hogan Hiways operation manager, the section of the road had not been repaired for years.

“Over time due to weather and heavy usage the road surface had deteriorated. Because of its condition and its importance as the main access to Navua the road was included in this year’s FRA annual rehabilitation programme,” Mr Tombs said.

The work covers a 600metres section of the road. A stabilising crew from Fulton Hogan Hiways has prepared the road for sealing, which an additional crew from the company is expected to complete by the end of the week.

Naitonitoni Road is the main thoroughfare for Navua and services approximately 6000 vehicles daily.

Maintaining the road network is a major part of the Fulton Hogan Hiways responsibilities under the Central/Eastern area maintenance contract they hold with the Fiji Roads Authority.
