Recent comments made by a professional to overseas media about the sedition cases have come across as a misrepresentation, the Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, said yesterday.

“This professional who has actually commented has misrepresented what the law was,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum believes the comments which were made were very irresponsible.

“The professional gave a factually wrong view so the media organisation is going to run along with that view,” he said.

He highlighted as a professional it was vital to declare your interests when commenting on a particular issue.

“In that context, he or she has diminished their integrity or their credibility as a professional by making such comments.

“One of course needs to be able to look at within what context you are talking,” he said.
