The Methodist Church has announced that 26 new ministers will be ordained next Wednesday.

The announcement was made at the Methodist Church’s Festival for Praising God in Hymns and Gifts where a total of $345,004.55 in donations had been collected as of Thursday evening.

The festival has been collecting donations since last Friday.

The ministerial session of the Church’s Annual Conference also took place on Thursday. The new ministers were interviewed by the ministerial session of conference and gave an account of their journey over the recent years and affirmed their commitment to the call to ordained ministry.

Methodist Church in Fiji General secretary Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa said the ministers – one female and 25 males – had completed six years of probation which includes ministerial formation and practical ministry. “From the 25 male, eight will serve as school chaplains, one in the Young People’s Department, 12 will serve in circuits around Fiji while four are current students in the Bachelor of Divinity programme at the Davuilevu Theological College pursuing further studies,” he said.

“The three deaconesses who have completed five years of probation were also interviewed and will be ordained in a special church service to be held at Raiwai Methodist Church on Wednesday at 7pm,” he said.

The Festival of Praise ends today while the representative session of the conference will begin next Monday.
