It was a nervous day for 50 high school students at yesterday’s student Parliament sitting.

However, Joyce Seruiratu, the daughter of the leader of  Government business in Parliament and Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu described her experience in Parliament as the ‘best learning experience’.

Joyce is a Year 12 student of       Adi Cakobau School (ACS) in Sawani and acted as Leader of Government during the sitting.

“This is my dream, to become a woman parliamentarian.

“It was exactly like the way Dad described it,” she said.

Her proud father, Mr Seruiratu, made a brief visit to Parliament yesterday to check on his daughter and the student parliamentarians.

Her friend and ACS headgirl, Salote Veisamasama is the granddaughter of the late, Jone Veisamasama, a former general-secretary of the Fijian Association, the forerunner of the Alliance Party. She shared the same sentiments.

“The two main issues which we discussed were related to teenage prostitution and the importance of encouraging E-learning.

“It was of great interest and I believe that after today most of us were being encouraged to get involved with our parliamentarians more.”
