Mick Beddoes wants to know who was behind the controversial confidential report that has split SODELPA Opposition.

The controversial principal administration officer in the Opposition Office asked the questions in a complaint sent to SODELPA’s management board against SODELPA MP and lawyer Mosese Bulitavu.

Mr Bulitavu has endorsed the report’s recommendation calling for the resignation of Opposition leader Ro Teimumu Kepa, Mr Beddoes and others. The report is critical of the governance of the Opposition Office, Including appointment of staff such as Mr Beddoes.

Mr Beddoes said allegations made against him by Mr Bulitavu were “either exaggerated or factually incorrect.

“I will provide the evidence to support my position,” he said.

Mr Bulitavu said yesterday he would wait for the management board to meet.

He confirmed that he had sought leave from the secretary-general to Parliament that he would not attend the parliamentary  sitting beginning on Monday because he still had to sort out some of the issues raised in the report.

In an email to SODELPA MPs and party officials, Mr Bulitavu said he had sought clarifications from Ministry of Finance on the status of the $15,000 per member of Parliament.

“They have confirmed it is not for constituency allowance,” he said

It was to administer opposition MPs’ office. It can be used also for individual MPs setting up offices in their constituencies.

If Opposition MPs have offices in their respective areas it would make the party more visible, he said.

Mr Beddoes wrote:

  • “As part of my formal grievance I would like the Management Board and the General Secretary of the party to advise the following:
  • “Did the Management Board or the General Secretary collectively individually have knowledge of, participated in, sanctioned or lent support directly or indirectly to the author of the report or any other individuals including Hon Bulitavu or the person known as ‘Gaunavinaka’?
  • “Did the Management Board or the General Secretary collectively or individually have any knowledge of any individual party member or official undertaking or participating in such a report?
  • “If the answer is yes to any of the 2 questions above, I would like it circulated to all financial members of SODELPA, stating the names of the party officials who were part of or supported this report.
  • “ Assuming as I do that the Management Board and GS were not involved in this report, I request the following action be considered and immediately implemented:
  • “That the Management Board immediately activates the Disciplinary Procedures as outlined in Sec 22 of the Party Constitution.
  • “That Hon Bulitavu is immediately advised of my grievance and if a complaint has been lodged against me, that I be furnished with the allegations being made against me.
  • “That all parties be informed of the names of the 3-member Disciplinary Committee.”
