For the very first time the Sathya Sai Service Organisation is branching into the realm of the ancient tradition of Vedam chanting.

The founder of the organisation, Sri Sathya Sai Baba had said: “Vedas shall be spread to every country so that every human being irrespective of religion, caste, nationality, etc, learns Vedas and chants them.”

Sathya Sai Service Organisation of Fiji national youth advisor Venkat Reddy said Vedas were the words of God that was inspired by ancient sages for the benefit of all humanity.

“The root of the word Veda is Vid or knowledge. Thus, the Vedas are the storehouse of knowledge, spiritual and worldly. This knowledge is organised into verses, chapters and volumes to ease their remembrance by individuals and dissemination to humanity. The Vedas are chanted, individually and collectively,” he said.

“Though the language of Vedas is Sanskrit, Vedas are known and chanted by people all over the world who are not even of Indian origin e.g. Croatia, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, France, South Africa, Russia, Czech Republic, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Iran, Iraq, United States of America, Serbia, Australia, New Zealand,” he said.

Mr Reddy said members of the public, regardless of gender, religion (including atheists, ethnicity, age, are most welcome, not only to the workshop at Sai Centre Nausori today but to the Vedic chanting and ceremony at the Shirdi temple, Suva tomorrow.

The organisation is known in Fiji for conducting free medical camps and providing the most blood donations of any faith-based group for four years running (2009-2012).
