Consistent wins at the Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Awards since 2011 have encouraged locally-owned Ram Sami & Sons (Fiji) Limited to continue expanding.

The company specialises in the production, distribution and marketing of the high quality farm fresh eggs and poultry products.

Director, Prashneel Sami Goundar, said the wins have encouraged the company to invest in more farms to further enhance its supply chain.

“This is in order to expand its products and services wide across to Fiji and to other new Pacific Island countries,” he said.

“It has also motivated the Ram Sami & Sons team to focus on other compliance standards such as Food & Drug Administration, US Food & Drug Administration and Australian Quarantine and Inspection Services.”

Mr Goundar said through these compliances, the company can now export to other new markets such as USA, New Zealand and Australia.

Ram Sami & Sons won the LICI Medium Exporter of the Year Award the past year.

And once again this year, the company plans to enter the awards which will be held in November.

 

The market

Ram Sami & Sons is the largest producer and distributor of poultry products in Fiji.

Its products such as eggs and feed are distributed and sold not only in Fiji but also in Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Tuvalu and Kiribati.

The company is keen to retain its quality for eggs and feed and provide the best in the market.

Thus, from time to time, it keeps investing in new ventures and high technology equipment to enable to monitor its products and provide the best to the people.

 

Background

With the humble beginnings from a back yard chicken shed in Nausori 50 years ago by the late Mr & Mrs Ram Sami, the company Ram Sami & Sons incorporated in 1970.

The Company was restructured in 2005 and commenced operations as Ram Sami & Sons (Fiji) Limited.

Currently the company has three laying farms, one brooding and rearing farm, a feedmill, whilst employing over 260 staff.

The company also has a subsidiary company Wallson Foods Limited which specialises in manufacturing, distributing and marketing of Wallson Sausages and Tomato Sauce.

 

Distribution and reputation

Ram Sami & Sons (Fiji) Limited has acquired an excellent reputation.

Fresh eggs are being supplied to all the leading supermarkets in Fiji, hotels, aviation catering service providers, municipal markets, dairy shops, restaurants, canteens, cafes.

Also Government and commercial offices, BBQ stalls and retailed from their sales office, and not forgetting exports sales to neighbouring Pacific Island countries.

The company is striving to achieve the best local and international best practices.

This is by continuously identifying new technologies, improving the skills and knowledge of its staff, maintaining and increasing its supply chain and delivering quality products to its clients.

These improvements are driven by the management team who are dedicated to exceptional customer service, producing, processing and delivering quality products and continuous staff trainings.

 

2015 Westpac Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Awards categories

  • The 2015 Westpac Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Award will be presented to a company with outstanding export results, excellent corporate social responsibility, creative techniques and innovative ideas which has impacted trade and development in Fiji.
  • Bank of Baroda Small Exporter of the Year Award will be given to a Company with foreign exchange earnings of up to F$2 million.
  • LICI Medium Exporter of the Year Award will be presented to a company with foreign exchange earnings between F$2 million – F$5 million.
  • HFC Bank Large Exporter of the Year Award will recognise the achievements of a company with exports exceeding $5 million.
