Special Moments for Ben, Josh

Josh Matavesi and Ben Volavola watched the announcement of the Vodafone Flying Fijians team to the Rugby World Cup on television last Friday.

It was only when their names were announced that they made their way to the Britannia Room at the Grand Pacific Hotel to meet the coaching staff and Fiji Rugby Union officials.

Volavola said it was an exciting moment for them.

“Josh and I just saw the announcement on TV and sent few texts to family back home and they were very happy and excited,” he said.

“Very excited, happy to be in the team and now I’m looking forward to London.

“It’s very special for myself personally seeing that , I grow up watching the game and every time I tell myself that one day I will play in the RWC.

“I’m just hoping we get the support from our local people, supporting the boys and myself. We have been putting a lot of hard work behind closed doors and the support will be great for us.”

Volavola, 24, acknowledges his family for their support.

“The support over the years of my mum, dad, brothers and my girlfriend has been great,” he said.

Josh Matavesi said they were nervous before the announcement.

“We were nervous but felt excited after and we got the call from the manager to come down from our rooms and we were happy,” Matavesi said.

“This selection is massive for me and we will have a good RWC as I’m confident with the boys.”

The 24-year-old Ospreys first five-eighth made a special mention of his father Sireli Matavesi.

“I want to dedicate this selection to my old man Sireli Matavesi who has been very supportive all along,” Matavesi said.
