Martin Coffin scored the winning goal in extra time for Lautoka to upset defending champions Suva 1-0 yesterday.

This was during the Fiji Hockey Federation’s Presidents Cup final at Nadovu Park, Lautoka.

In the first semifinal Nadi’s Chad Eastgate scored in the 1-0 victory over Suva.

But Suva protested that Nadi fielded an unregistered player from Ba and was awarded the match.

In the other semifinal Lautoka hammered the Lautoka development side 3-0. The development side had players from St Thomas High School and Ba Provincial Freebird Institute.

In the 3rd /4th playoff Lautoka development beat Nadi 7-5 in penalty strokes.

In the women’s category, defending champions Suva retained their title after a 3-0 win over Lautoka.

Goals came from Tallah Ah Yuk (2) and Rebecca Lemeki.

The capital city included national reps Catherine Fabiano, Lala Ravatu, Tessa Harman, Rita Hicks, Elaina Yong, Miri Silatolu and former national rep Ana Finau.

“The girls were determined and we thank Lautoka for giving us good competition,” Finau said.

Lautoka Hockey Association official Fergus Underwood said the standard of hockey displayed was good but was disappointed with the turnout.

“The turnout was poor from other three associations,” Underwood said.

“Otherwise the standard of hockey was still high. This was a good build-up for the IDC and the Oceania playoff in New Zealand in October.”

He thanked Fiji Hockey, William and Gosling and Punjas for supporting the two-day event.
