The Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday received the bail variation application for Opposition Member of Parliament Mosese Bulitavu.

Mr Bulitavu is among the five men who have been charged for seditious offences.

It is alleged that between August 21 and 27, 2011, Bulitavu, Sri Lankan- born New Zealand citizen Jagath Karunaratne, Eroni Takape, Usaia Koroi and Waisale Daganayasi conspired to an act, mainly writing seditious words in public places and billboards along the Suva-Nausori corridor with seditious intentions and thereby purported to bring into hatred or contempt or to excite dissatisfaction against the Fijian Government as the law established.

Bulitavu and three others appeared before Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili in Suva yesterday.

His lawyer Barbara Malimali yesterday informed the court that she was still waiting for  Bulitavu’s voir dire disclosures.

She also informed the court that she has not received documents such as the Labasa Police Station’s diary, their cell book and meal book from the time Mr Bulitavu was arrested.

Magistrate Ratuvili was also made aware yesterday that Bulitavu had asked the court for permission to attend parliamentary meetings in Canada from September 26 to October 11.

He then ruled that Bulitavu’s bail variation be heard next Monday.
