HFC Bank gave a total of $18,000 to the nine participating teams of the 2015 HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge which starts this Saturday at Lawaqa Park.

The nine participating teams received their preparation grants of $2000 each from the sponsors during the launch at Holiday Inn Suva last night. HFC Bank chief executive officer Isikeli Tikoduadua wished the teams well last night.

“I am extremely proud to announce that this year also marks the 74th year of the Farebrother Challenge and we are proud to bring you the most awaited rugby challenge of our nation.

“Last year’s challenge was very competitive and what a thrill to watch especially for those of us who have gone down to Lawaqa Park, we must congratulate Nadroga for successfully defending the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge,” Tikoduadua said. Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer Radrodro Tabualevu said this year’s competition will be a showcase of our local talents.

“Last year’s Farebrother Challenge was tough and challenging with Nadroga defending the title and remain unbeaten throughout their eight matches,” Tabualevu said.

2015 Skipper Cup runners-up Namosi team manager Tui Saladoka said they were planning to organise warm-up matches before their challenge on October 10.

“We are taking a one-week break after the Skipper Cup final last Saturday and we are planning to have warm-up matches before our game,” Saladoka said.

Defending champions BLK Nadroga play Nadi in the opening round at Lawaqa Park this Saturday.

Challenge order; Nadi (August 29), Vatukoula (September 5), Naitasiri (September 12) Suva (September 19), Northland ( October 3) Namosi( October 10), Lautoka (October 17)
