The Amalgamated Telecom Holding Limited group believes in focusing on result in order to move forward.

Group General Manager Ivan Fong said we have four companies in the group and one of the things we are focusing on is improving the coordination amongst companies.

“At the end of the day from a group level we now said look the concern we should all have is the result of the group.

“If we share the concern as a common objective then whatever decisions we need to have with the counterparts will happen in order to achieve growth.”

Mr Fong added there has been a big improvement in this area and believes this is a strength for the group.

Success

The ATH Group has recorded an interim and unaudited consolidated Net profit After Tax and Minority Interest of $11.4 million for their first quarter ended June 30.

This was an increase of 27 per cent compared to the consolidated Net Profit After Tax and Minority Interest of $8.9 million recorded for the corresponding period the past year.

Mr Fong said this success has come through continuous expansion within the business.

“We look at expanding within Fiji and also markets outside of Fiji.

“All the growth opportunities are good and we have done a lot of that and we are starting now to get out in the Pacific and moving outside of the Pacific,” Mr Fong said.

Effectiveness

He Fong explained the past five years was proven well and the group is now focusing on improving the efficiencies within the growth.

“We had to review the cost of operations, Telecom Fiji did some redundancy and at that time there was a lot of sensitivity about this thing.

“However, these things have to be done and it is not to say that it won’t be done going forward.”

He added the nature of the business continues to changes with time due to technology and equipment.

“The skill sets required to operate today is different from last year. So we need to bring new skills in but its good if the resources you have can update and continue to provide,” Mr Fong added.

He said: “But if that is not possible then you need upgrade and you can’t carry on the legacy of the past.

“While you look at growth we also have to address a lot of cleaning up in house and all those sort of things.”
