The President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, yesterday received the Letters of Credence from the new Ambassador for the Republic of Iraq to Fiji, Mouayed Saleh.

Ambassador Saleh was officially welcomed to Fiji by Ratu Epeli when he presented his credentials at Government House in Suva.

As non-resident Ambassador, he will spearhead the deepening of relations between Iraq and Fiji.

Formal diplomatic relations between Fiji and Iraq was established in 2014 where a joint communiqué was signed between Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Peter Thomson and his Iraqi counter-part, Ambassador Ali Alhakim.
