There were 1268 traffic infringement bookings and arrests carried out in the Western Division last month.

Director Traffic Control Unit Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mahesh Mishra revealed this yesterday.

“This is part of our effort to help minimise road fatalities around the country and this shows the amount of effort we have put in to make our roads safe,” SSP Mishra said.

“We will make sure that people who are not following road safety rules are put to task and it’s about time that we seek assistance from relevant authorities like the Land Transport Authority for harsh punishments.

“This is a concern and it is our duty to see that people who are not abiding by the road rules are put to task,” he said.

Meanwhile, 361 drivers had been booked for other offences like illegal operation.

Road fatalities around the country stands at 43 compared to 36 for the same period last year.
