The President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau reminded the Vodafone Flying Fijians to focus on their games and not to be distracted by people’s predictions.

Ratu Epeli made the statement when the squad presented their itatau (traditional farewell) at Government House yesterday.

“You have some of the best sports people and top international players saying that Fiji is going to do well,” Ratu Epeli said.

“You are going to surprise a lot of people. Don’t let that get into your head. You have to focus on that field,” Ratu Epeli said.

“You need to produce the goods,” he said.

“I give you all the blessing of all the Fijians here and abroad, all your grandparents, sisters and brothers wish you well. We know that you will put yourself on the line and surprise a lot of people. This team is going to do well in the World Cup.

“Whatever you do, enjoy yourselves while you are there. I look forward to the matches when they take place.”

Ratu Epeli reminded the players that the nation had been anticipating to watch them perform.

“Our big match is on September 18 and we are all looking forward to that. The prayers of all Fijians go with you and you don’t have to ask for that. Your focus is on the World Cup,” he said.

The team leaves for London next Monday.
