The head of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, made his first inaugural visit to the Yasawa on Tuesday.

The event was hosted at Vuaki Village where Archbishop Chong was honoured with a full traditional welcome ceremony on the island.

Bale Saukuru of the Turtle Island Resort and Turtle Airways Limited said the purpose of Archbishop Chong’s visit was to hold a confirmation sacrament for the 30 plus Catholic members.

“Turtle Island director Richard Evanson Jr provided a return seaplane transfer for the Archbishop, on board Turtle Airways Limited as a form of welcoming the Archbishop to the Yasawa,” she said.

The traditional welcome was conducted at Turtle Island Resort with the “ai Vakasobu” done by Arthur Sladden.

Ms Saukuru said the full programme was hosted by the Catholic congregation in the resort with the full support of the general manager, Alex Weiss.
