Commencement Of The AFAS

The Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS) was enacted on August 27. The AFAS programme changes the requirements for methyl bromide treatment certificates for consignments from Fiji.

The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) and the Department of Agriculture- Australia have launched the AFAS programme that will require Fijian methyl bromide treatment providers and exporters of goods to obtain certificates from registered AFAS treatment providers.

Methyl bromide treatment certificates issued to prior to August 27 will remain acceptable provided they meet the existing requirements.
