Mental health is now a become a priority policy issue for parliamentarians.
Specialists from the Ministry of Health emphasised the importance of dealing with the stigma of the illness, in a presentation at the Parliament committee room yesterday.
The presentation, that involved specialists from the ministry’s headquarters and Saint Giles Hospital, comes in the wake of major reform of legislation related to mental health.
Non-profit organisations like the Fiji Alliance for Mental Health have also been active raising awareness with icons like All Blacks rugby legend John Kirwan.
MPs at the presentation and lunch included Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
