The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the news of Nadi being given City status in 2017.

This was after the announcement made by Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar in Nadi the past week.

Chamber President Dr Ram Raju believes City status will enhance and perhaps accelerate investors to look at various development opportunities.

He said business growth will be a spin off.

“We in Nadi are blessed and enthusiastically looking forward to the proclamation of City status in 2017,” he said.

“It is a dream come to fruition. Wonderful and exciting times loom ahead and augur well for the overall economic growth of this country.

“We have had numerous meetings in the past on this ambitious plan or undertaking with all the relevant stakeholders and I’m glad that this will soon be materialised.”

“This means that Nadi is finally poised to be one of the most important centres in Fiji as well as the Asia Pacific region.”

Dr Raju said he is aware of various constraints that delayed this proclamation that were addressed and taken care of to declare Nadi a City.

“Nadi Town Council and the chamber had engaged in several forums, discussions and resolutions that we were supportive of since it has all the merits rather than demerits,” he said.

He said obviously there’ll be expansion and extension of the town boundaries to include developments as far as Momi, Sabeto, Nadi Back Road, Votualevu, Denarau Island, Nasoso and a few other areas.

He said they were also well aware of some outstanding issues that need to be taken care of in the Nadi which they have to get off the ground.
