Fly boarding is a new concept in our tourism industry. But stakeholders have gone a step further and launched the world’s first fly boarding fire dance.

Hydrosports (Fiji) trading as Entice Action Sports established the fantastic venture to add an incredible thrill to the innovation of water sports with our fire dancing.

Watching a fly boarding fire dance was an experience like none other and was launched this week at Robinson Crusoe Island, located a few miles North of Natadola beach.

Director of Hydrosports (Fiji) Shaye Felsch said fire dancing on the Flyboard was a goal of the company.

She said they were able to achieve that with an amazing group of people on the island and the outcome was unbelievable.

“The investment has been huge. Physically and emotionally, it has been a huge sacrifice,” Ms Felsch said.

“Through it all though, whenever you set up a company, you have to be determined, prepared and most importantly willing to work hard.

“In fact, the fire dancing on the Flyboard was one of the first visions we had for the operation.

“We have been extremely fortunate in having the ability to fulfill our five year business goals so soon.”

Choice of island

Ms Felsch said Robinson Crusoe Island was a beautiful island that was more than supportive of the operation.

“The island in itself was seeking innovation and with such determination with director captain Paul, it was an instant match to combine such fantastic structures of the island with our operation and ideas.

Tourism Fiji Global Public Relations manager Patricia Mallam said: “This will make Fiji the only country in the world that offers tourists a unique cultural show.

“One which combines Fly Boarding and fire dancing to create a new product that takes cultural entertainment to the next level.”

What is fly boarding?

  • This involves the visitor having a board fitted to their feet, from which a controlled jet of water, which propels them into the air.
  • The rider can control the direction of the board simply by shifting their weight.
  • Lean back and the board moves back, lean forward and the board goes forward. It is steered by shifting the rider’s weight to either side.

What is fly board fire dancing?

  • Involves doing all the above but also dancing using a lit wood fire staff.
  • It surely requires a lot of skills and practice to be able to perform this task.
