Royal Eagles were crowned winners after defeating the Qio Vula 61-30 in the AFL Fiji Womens grand final at Veiuto  in Suva yesterday.

Royal Eagles captain Matelita Tuilevuka was overwhelmed with their achievement.

“This is the first time AFL Fiji women’s competition is being held here in Fiji and walking away with the trophy is a great achievement.

“We are so happy to be crowned the winners of the first ever women’s competition in Fiji,” Tuilevuka said.

She said the team would try and work on their areas of weakness and come back strong to defend their title next year.

“The girls really did well and our plan now is to try and defend this trophy again next year.

“Qio Levu gave us a good game and a run for our money and we acknowledge them for the tough challenge.

Meanwhile Qio Vula captain Siteri Tadrau was upbeat in defeat.

“We will always come back competitive in every game and we will continue with this competition next year. Come next year we will be a team to look out for,” she said.
