Defending champions, Northern, were outclassed 3-1 by Western Two in the Skyline Police Inter-District Championship (IDC) final at Nasova, Suva yesterday.

The goals were scored by Edwin Raju, Akai Uluibau and Ronald Dutt.

Finishing third was Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) beating Eastern Division 3-1 through penalty kicks.

Western Two coach Rajneel Ram applauded the effort.

“This is the first time we won this competition and this just goes to show all the hard work that we have put in this win,” Ram said.

“We made it a mission for us to win this year, especially reaching the finals in 2013 and losing 1-0 to Northern. ”

Ram dedicated the win to the hard working officers and also said it would be fairly easy for the selectors to choose players for the final team.

“We dedicate this win to the officers who dedicate their lives to the Force and who work so hard,” he said.

“Knowing that selectors will be choosing the final team for the Sukuna Bowl, we know that the selection for them will be quite easy.”

Meanwhile, coach/player for Northern Vidya Pillay said though they lost, it will be a wakeup call for them to step up and win the trophy back next year.

“I salute my boys for a job well done, we expected to win it again this year but the competition has been really tough,” Pillay said.

“There has been a good mixture of experienced and youth players. My boys I know will learn a lot from this tournament and go back to the drawing board and hopefully come back bigger and stronger next year.”
