Preparations for the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa is on the right track as Team Fiji was hosted to a lunch at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday.

The CYG will be held in Apia,  Samoa on September 5-11.

“Preparations has been coming along very well during school holidays as the athletes have been able to come together to train,” CYG team leader Lyndall Fisher said.

“The excitement is really building up now and the athletes are really looking forward to leaving and participating in their respective events.

“All the teams have been finalised and they have been training really hard.

Fiji will be competing in archery, athletics, rugby, swimming, squash, tennis and weightlifting.

Fisher said this was the starting point of the athletes sporting career and they have stressed the need for them to do their best.

“One thing we can proud of is that out of the 1000 athletes taking part, Fiji is taking 51 athletes which is good for us,” she said.

“This is the first time for most of the participants to travel overseas and take part in the CYG.

Team Fiji will present their itatau to President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau today.
