Joseph Rodan (Senior).

Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) president Joseph Rodan (Senior) has challenged Team Fiji members ahead of the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

Speaking to the team on Sunday at Suva Bowling Club, Rodan said athletes should compete to win.

“When you go out there to a game, you go to win,” the former South Pacific Games gold medallist said.

“Winning is very important and whatever you do, you should aim to win because when you win, it will help Fijian sports.

“You want to perform to the best of your ability and when you know that you have performed to the best of your ability, you will be proud of yourself.

“For some of you, this will be the first time that you will be representing Fiji, the Commonwealth Youth Games is very important to us because it is the start of your sporting career.

“You are going out there to play in an international competition which will have about 70 countries. Go out there, enjoy it and experience it.

“The only way that you can win is to ensure that you put in the hard work, remember there is no short cut to success,” he said.

“Remember that Fiji will be watching you and we want you to do your best and win.”

Team Fiji depart on Friday for Samoa.
