The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, and his counterpart from the Republic of Indonesia, Retno L.P. Marsudi met on the margins of the 3rd Pacific Islands Development Forum at the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) yesterday.

They discussed ways to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas, as well as exchanged views on a wide range of international and regional issues of common interest, and reached important consensus.

The two Ministers expressed their satisfaction on the excellent state of bilateral relations between Fiji and Indonesia.

They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to further advancing the strong ties of friendship and co-operation between the two peoples, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual benefit.

The Ministers were greatly encouraged by the growing cooperation across the full spectrum of the bilateral relationship reflected in the Agreement on the Framework for Development Cooperation (DCA).

The DCA deals mainly in legal and justice (police, legal and judicial, immigration, combating narcotics, democracy and good governance); trade and investment (agriculture, marine and fisheries, forestry, tourism, transportation/connectivity, infrastructure); and social and culture (education, culture and arts, youth and sports, disaster management, women empowerment and child protection, social development and poverty reduction, capacity building and technical cooperation, protection of citizens and legal entities).

Ratu Inoke said they both reaffirmed that given the two countries’ economic potential and complementarities, the strong partnership between Fiji and Indonesia had grown.
