PIDF Chief Guest Overwhelmed With Fijian Hospitality

Thailand Deputy PM General Thanasak Patimapragorn said yesterday he was overwhelmed with the Fijian hospitality.

The chief guest at the 3rd Pacific Islands Development Forum said he was touched by traditional welcome performed by the men of Bau and Cautata.

He said Thailand was honoured to be invited to the august meeting.

He said he was committed to build up the partnership between the two countries.

He said he was looking forward to the 3rd Pacific Islands Development Forum that would officially start today.

Before the traditional welcome ceremony, General Patimapragorn inspected a 100-men guard of honour by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fijian Navy.

The Minister for Foreign Afffairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said he was happy with the PIDF programme.

He said everything was oraganised by the PIDF secretariat.

The PIDF Deputy Secretary General, Penijamini Lomaloma, said everything about the meeting was on schedule.

He said today would be the main meeting.

Yesterday the PIDF Governing Council met at the GPH.

In this meeting, leaders went over all that would be covered today.

Among non-Pacific Islands delegates are Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Erlan Idrissov, the Indonesian Marine Affairs Minister and representatives from the EU, the UK, Belgium, NZ, Kuwait, Singapore, Israeli, Netherlands, Venezuela, Chile, Belgium and the Philippines.

After the welcoming ceremonies, the delegates were hosted to a welcome reception by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
