The traditional chiefs of the Ba province have distanced themselves from allegations of sedition by chiefs of neighbouring provinces.

Our support for the Bainimarama Government remains strong, was their message at their two-day annual meeting at the Ba Provincial Council.

The chiefs of the 21 tikina in the country’s largest province gathered at Natalecake Village in Ba yesterday.

Mata ni tikina Tavua (spokeman) Apisalome Ulusova assured the Government of the stability in their province.

He was referring to the sedition cases involved chiefs from the Nadroga/Navosa and Ra. More than 70 people have already fronted court since July facing allegations of sedition and inciting communal antagonism.

“On behalf of the chiefs of the Ba province, we will stand our ground and not be swayed by the action of other chiefs in other provinces,” he said.

“Let the Government take notice, including the Police Force and Republic of the Fiji Military Forces. We will not pursue any such battle against the leadership of Government.

“We have learnt a lot from the mistakes of the past and it is in our interest to work hand in hand with the Government of the day,” he said.
