Christian education should produce good citizens and good role models, says Methodist Church in Fiji secretary for non–formal education Reverend Semisi Turagavou.

He said this during the Christian education workshop for all deaconesses and chaplains from the fourteen Methodist divisional schools around Fiji. The workshop, at Epworth Hall in Suva, finishes today.

“We have a new Christian educational curriculum for the divisional schools that has students of 14 years of age until 25 years old who are eligible to go through our two-year course or programme before going over to our Methodist lay training college in Davuilevu that trains lay pastors and stewards,” he said.

Christian education aimed to further theological perspectives and biblical knowledge, according to Reverend Turagavou.

“We provide these Christian educational studies twice every year but under the Lako Yani Vou we have planned to do training all year through like all other schools,” he said.

“The Lakeba divisional school in Lau, Lotu Bible School in Tailevu, Nareba Divisional in Nadroga and Nasoso divisional In Macuata are some of the few divisional schools that we operate from through the help of our deaconess and reverends.

There will be two more new schools opening next year. They are Serua divisional School and Bulu divisional school in Gau Island.

A total of 146 students around Fiji currently undergo this Christian educational programme,” he said.
