Kurabui Warriors from Nakorocagi, Dreketi in Vanua Levu aim to qualify for the top eight spot in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone cup competition.

Team manager Asaeli Buli said two weeks of preparation and financial constraints will not dampen their spirit as they prepare to play against Navatulevu Nadi team in the quarterfinals today.

“This is the second time we’re featuring in the Vodafone Cup quarterfinal; last year we lost the game, we have gone through a lot, two weeks of preparation back in the village wasn’t enough but we thank the Lord for helping us as we tried to make it over to Suva for the games.

“It was hard, there were no sponsor and we had to fundraise on our own and we had support from our families back in the village,” Buli said.

“We would like to thank FNRL for donating our jersey and we will not underestimate our opponent,” he added.

Team captain Iniasi Vodo said he hoped the team would improve from last year’s game.

“We entered the tournament last year, but we didn’t prepare well; we’re hoping that we’ll win this. We are trying to improve on our defence, attacking game and also team bonding.  We still have a long way to go and we’re trying to work on our weaknesses,” Vodo said.

The Vodafone cup quarterfinals kicks off at 9:30am in the U16 grade at Buckhurst and Bidesi ground today.
