Team Fiji reps to the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa aim to improve their personal best.

Chef de mission, Lyndall Fisher, said wining gold medals would be a bonus.

“The athletes are confident of achieving positive results from this tour,” Fisher said.

“I wouldn’t put the athletes in how many gold medals we are targeting because many Commonwealth countries will be participating. It would be a tough competition.

“Winning a medal will be fantastic. To me I want them to achieve their personal best and give their best 110 per cent in the Games.

“They are excited because most of them are going for the first time overseas. The excitement has build up and they are looking forward to settling in.

“This is a stepping stone for a lot of them as they’re also preparing for the Mini Games in 2017 and the Commonwealth Games in 2018. Hopefully they will learn from this trip and get to represent Fiji again.

“We are very fortunate and thankful to the Fiji National Sports Commission for providing a grant of $100,000 for us.”

Fiji will compete in seven sports.

The 60-member Team Fiji left for Apia yesterday.
