The Veniona Vuki-captained Malolo rugby side will be a team to beat in the Vodafone Trophy final come next Saturday against Cakaudrove.

Flanker Timoci Davu scored two tries in the nine tries to one 51 -13 victory over Rewa in a one-sided semifinal yesterday.

The side had the services of former Nadroga reps Iliesa Ratuva (no 8, Jiuta Lutumailagi (fly-half) and Kini Salabogi (lock) which proved to be the x-factor.

Malolo led 36-10 at the breather and added the more needed cushion in the second spell dominating set pieces, scrums and lineouts.

Malolo team manager Tevita Sadrata said this year they were looking forward to join the major union.

“It is the dream this season to win the B-division competition,” he said.

“We came prepared for Rewa and we played to our game plan which resulted in the win. Weaknesses are still there but we aim to fix that which is in the forwards and backline.”

In the other semifinal match Cakaudrove beat Nanukuloa (Ra) 13-10.

The Northerners lead 13-3 at the break with two tries to winger Wilson Lovukuro and penalty off the boot of half-back John Chute while fly half Etuate Nabanivalu kicked a penalty for Nanukuloa.

The second spell saw Nanukuloa regroup allowing full-back Josua Ose to score followed by a successful conversion from Nabaivalu but it was too late.

Cakaudrove team manager Pita Ralaca said, they needed to make changes in the game approach.

“We are in the final as it was a tough victory over Nanukuloa they did come back strong in the second spell,” he said.

“We still have to iron our mistakes and which we think it should work out for us. We have some room to work it out.”
