The Vanua Levu Muslim Inter-District Championship tournament has been labelled as the tournament that brings Muslims together in the North.

Fiji Muslim League vice-president Basheer Ahmed said this last Saturday during the official opening of the week-long tournament at Subrail Park in Labasa.

“It’s been more than 20 years now since we started with the tournament and the number of people that has been attending is increasing each year,” Ahmed said.

He said the tournament brought people together.

Vanua Levu Muslim IDC committee president Mohammed Aruf Khan said the tournament would be played in two divisions – Super Premier and Premier.

“There are 12 teams in Super Premier and 10 in Premier,” he said.

He said teams competing were from Vanua Levu.

“The tournament would be held from 5:30pm to 11pm daily.”

Nasea Muslim team president Mohammed Sameer said they had prepared two teams – Super Premier and Premier.

“Our aim is to play good clean soccer and retain the title.”
