Bee Farmer, Naleba Pokiti has travelled from the highlands to participate in the 2015 Central Division Agriculture Show being held at Syria Park in Nausori.

With his Mountain Honey brand, Mr Pokiti, is one of the many farmers who have come to take advantage of the three days show.

He said: “We always come and sell our products at the Agriculture Show; we have had a stall in Rakiraki, Tavua and now the Nausori show.

“This show is good because it allows us to display our products and gives us an opportunity to build our business.”

Bee Farming

Mr Pokiti operates a farm which is located in the mountains of Nakorotubu in Ra with four labourers.

He said: “We do all the processes ourselves in the farm; we do the harvesting, extracting and the bottling.”

However, farming in the interior has its challenges. Mr Pokiti said travelling is their biggest problem.

“We farm in the mountains and that is about 10 kilometres away from the village. This makes it hard for us to come and sell our products,” he said

“So we sell it to a middle man who comes and sells our products in the Suva Market.”

Mr Pokiti added from next year, they will be selling their products to Ashabhai & Company Limited who will then be able to help with a wider reach.
