Another Young Student Death

A community in Taveuni is in a state of shock after the body of a Year 12 female student was discovered in her home on Wednesday morning.

Police have not ruled out foul play but will await the results of a post-mortem examination report to determine the cause of death of the student, a resident of Qarawalu Settlement.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said she was found dead by her older brother at 9am.

“Initially, the parent of the deceased reported at Taveuni Police Station on Monday that she was missing from home,” she said.

“Early Wednesday morning, the parents went for shopping and when the older brother came home he found his sister’s dead body and reported it to the Police station.

“We cannot confirm now whether this is a suicide case or whatsoever as we are waiting for the post- mortem report.”

She said this was a very sad incident and police are continuing with the investigation.

Several members of the Qarawalu Settlement, who spoke to the Fiji Sun on the condition of anonymity, said the victim was at home because she was feeling sick.

On the day in question, according to these residents, the victim had refused to go to the hospital with her mother to receive medical treatment.

The residents also said, the victim’s brother had returned from work, and found the house locked and later found his sister inside, dead.

The neighbours are shocked, many refusing to believe that their young neighbour had died.
