My Best Son: Dead Police Officer’s Father Tells of Loss

The road death toll continues unabated with the latest fatality claiming the life of a police officer.

Police Constable Anjanesh Kumar was travelling to Suva late on Wednesday night when his car hit an electric post along Nadera in Nasinu. He died instantly.

His father, Ashok Kumar, said the tragic loss of his son, was unexpected.

“He was the best son,” an emotional Mr Kumar said.

“He was very good and very caring. He was always standing by me whenever I needed something and as a father I didn’t know it will be this early.”

Mr Kumar said he last spoke to his son on Tuesday.

“He spent one month with us and came back about two weeks ago and when I received the news this morning I couldn’t believe it.”

Mr Kumar came in from Ba as soon as he heard the news early yesterday morning.

The late Police Constable Kumar joined the Fiji Police Force in 2004. He is the eldest of four children and also has a twin sibling. He is survived by his wife.

Meanwhile, Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri has again warned motorists to drive within the speed limit and be mindful while out on our roads.

He said they would await the post-mortem results to determine the cause of PC Kumar’s death.
