Students from various schools dressed up in different library book characters yesterday to mark the end of National Library Week celebrations.

Nasinu Muslim Primary School and Suva Primary School were among the schools that celebrated the end of Library Week yesterday.

The two schools had various programmes during the week to match the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Unlimited Possibilities at Your Library’.

Nasinu Muslim Kindergarten teacher Irene Singh said throughout the week their students had designed posters relating to this year’s theme, created bookmarkers and also donated story books to be kept at their mini school library.

Ms Singh said they were overwhelmed with the interests shown by the students during this year’s Library week celebration.

“Throughout this week we have been teaching them about the library, its importance and the rules of the library,” Ms Singh said.

‘It is important that students at this age be taught about the importance of reading books because this is what will carry them through and as they grow up they will be reading books.”

Students of Suva Primary School also had a similar celebration, which was officiated by United Nations Population Fund’s gender advisor Ruci Yauvoli.
