Passengers on board a Shankar Singh Bus heading towards Suva were lucky to be saved by a tree when their bus veered off the road yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened when the driver tried avoiding a collision with vehicles in a queue in Lami.

A witness, Epi Sauturaga, who was weeding in his cassava farm near the roadside said the driver tried stopping the bus from having an accident when he went off the road.

“Luckily there was a tree in front which stopped the bus from falling into the ditch and no one got injured,” Mr Sauturaga said.

Owner of the company Bhim Singh also confirmed that no one was injured however he could not comment on what caused the mishap.
