The organisers of the 31st Annual Bilibili Race looks forward to a successful event on October 10.

The event has been a major drawcard for the hotels and resorts located along the Coral Coast and some from as far as Nadi and Suva are also gearing up for the event which has become a major tourist attraction in recent years.

Co-founder Bob Kennedy and a group of Coral Coast hoteliers initiated the Sigatoka Bilibili Race as a simple fun event in 1984.

“A happy fun day as a festive sporting event for involving employees of hotels and resorts, it has grown into something unique.

“We are proud of the people of Coral Coast; we get together for the staff of the hotels and to put in a lot for their enjoyment,” Kennedy said.

The programme will include tug-of-war, sack race, egg throwing, coconut tunnel, kayaking, waiters’ race, swimming, and water relays.

A 20-kilometre fun run relay from the Fiji’s Hideaway Resort and Spa to Sigatoka Town will start the event at 7:30am followed by the highlight of the famous “bilibili” (bamboo raft) race along the Sigatoka River.

The event was launched at the Hideaway Resort and Spa last Thursday.

“It is important to identify the Coral Coast as something always unique to Fiji. We are here today, to launch the event to have fun. We have maintained this event on the river for all to be entertained with the idea to see the event a success is the country,” Kennedy added.
