Team Fiji Commonwealth Youth Games chef de mission Lyndall Fisher was impressed with the overall performance of the athletes in Apia, Samoa.

Team Fiji returned home yesterday finishing in 13th place with two gold, two silver and a bronze medal at the Games.

“Most of these athletes were representing Fiji for the first time in a bigger competition like this where the standard of competition is really high.

“All our athletes did their best and were able to produce promising results getting two gold in a competition where you compete against bigger countries like England, Jamaica; it’s a huge achievement,” Fisher said.

The 2015 CYG will be a stepping stone to most of these U18 players.

“This game has actually prepared for bigger competition in future.

“The facilities in Samoa were good and we enjoyed our stay,” she added.
