Zaid Engineering Limited Wailevu won on penalties, beating VTL Valebasoga 4-2 in the shootout to win the Bank of Baroda Vanua Levu Muslim Inter-District Championship Super Premier Division tournament on Saturday night at Subrail Park.

Both teams were scoreless at fulltime and then an extra ten minutes was given before the penalty kicks to decide the winner.

Team coach Ravinesh Chand was in tears when his team won.

“Finally by grace of God my dream to bring glory to my district came true,” Chand said.

“We had a tough competition in the pool games with Korowiri, Salove, Soasoa, Valebasoga and Vunimoli.

“I thank the players for being disciplined and diligently following the game plan.

“I also would like to thank Almighty God, our sponsor, family, friends and supporters from Fiji and abroad,” Chand said.

“We dedicate this win to all of you.

“Being originally from Wailevu I feel proud that veteran players had a winning experience and I hope to do more for my people,”Chand added.

Chand, who took over the coaching reign of Wailevu since last year, was also awarded the best coach of the tournament. Two players from the team were also given best individual day player awards.

Valebasoga coach and former Labasa player Henry Dyer said penalty kicks can be anyone’s win game.

“I am satisfied that the team managed to play in the final,” Dyer said.

“I have been coaching this team for two weeks upon request and I have seen their talents and I believe they will come out well next year,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Road Tech Tyre Company Limited Taveuni defeated Naitik Motors Wailevu 3-2 on penalty kick to win the Premier Division title.
