No Classes But Suicide Programme

Schools will not hold classes on Friday.

Instead they will spend the day talking about suicide.

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Mahendra Reddy issued this directive yesterday following the recent deaths of three children who committed suicide.

As part of the programme, the students will be required to do role plays as a child, parent, friend, counsellor, religious leader, teacher, and minister and may also present essays, short stories, poems, songs, and skits.

“During the last class, the whole class will stand and read out a pledge against suicide that will be provided by the Ministry. After lunch, the School Heads will invite a Guest Speaker to speak to all children assembled at one place,” Mr Reddy said.
