Three Men Jailed For Suva Robbery

The High Court in Suva has jailed three men who robbed a Tamavua family in Suva.

Ilaitia Nadavulevu and Mataiasi Moceilevuka have been jailed for 12 years while Irami Ceinaturaga,  gets 14 years.

They pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery.

The court heard that early this year the three men,  on three occasions, broke into  a Ghandi’s family house in Tamavua, Suva, and stole assorted items worth $68, 574.

While sentencing them, the  judge, Justice Salesi Temo, said the crime was committed against a family (ie. Father, wife and son) while they were sleeping in their house.

He said an attack such as this was always a serious matter and would call for a higher sentence as a deterrence to others.

While reading out the mitigating factors Justice Temo considered the ages of the first and second accused and that they were also first offenders.

Out of the $68,574 worth of properties stolen, Justice Temo was informed that $44, 200 were recovered while $24, 374 worth of properties were not recovered.

Nadavulevu and Moceilevuka will be eligible for parole after 11 years while Ceinaturaga will be eligible for parole after 13 years.
