The MV Luminous Ace, specialised in transporting automobiles made its first port call to the Port of Suva on Monday.

The roll-on roll-off and load-on load-off uniquely-designed car carrier is represented by local shipping agent, Carpenters Shipping Limited.

Built in 1994 and owned by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance in Japan, the vessel sails under the Panama flag.

Speaking to Sun Shipping, Master of the Vessel, Captain Joel Merida confirmed that the car carrier was visiting Fiji for the first time.

Captain Merida said they discharged 49 units (vehicles) before making their way to Ports of Auckland, New Zealand where they expect to offload 1349 vehicles.

He indicated that the vessel’s voyage began from Japan where they loaded 2321 (units) vehicles to be discharged at seven ports around the Pacific.

The vessel sailed to Guam, Lae in Papua New Guinea, Port of Suva and then the four ports in New Zealand, namely – Auckland, Wellington, Littleton and Nelson. The vessel returns to Japan after that where it will load and start its next voyage.
