A  youth group in Labasa is making a difference by recruiting members and leasing them for light maintenance and cleaning services to businesshouses, business owners and members of the public who could afford their services.

The move is an initiative by the Sinucodo Brotherhood Youth Club to help its members, most of them who are unemployed, train to be responsible Fijians and keep them away from criminal activities.

Club president Panapasa Rabulu said the initiative was to train their members to be responsible in what they do.

“The programme is called R.Y.H.T.E. It will change people’s mindset to become better persons,” Mr Rabulu said.

“R stands for resources. The training would help the youths to be self-reliant and think of opportunities to utilise resources around them for productivity.

“Y stands for youth. It calls on youths to reduce crime rate by educating men to respect women and youth empowerment to realise one’s potential.

“H stands for health to help youths live a healthy life and free from drugs and alcohol.

“T stands for time management.

“E is for the environment. We are looking at our environmentally friendly brown paper bag and public litter bins production to motivate and help people put rubbish in litter bins.”

Meanwhile, the club will host a fundraising drive at the Sukanaivalu Barracks soon.
